Arkansas Tour

50 Farm Bureau members from Madison and Macoupin counties traveled to northeast Arkansas for a few days of learning, exploring and seeing agriculture from a different perspective. Our group ranged in age from 8 to their 80s, which made it especially fun to have several generations experiencing the trip together.

Over the course of the tour, we visited Delta Peanut, Riceland Foods, Judd Hill Family Poinsett Co. Agriculture, the Northeast Rice Research and Extension Center, and Busch Agricultural Resources, Inc. Each stop gave us a different look at agriculture in the region and the work that goes into producing some of Arkansas’ major crops.

We spent the weekend learning about rice, peanut and cotton production, from the research behind growing these crops to how they are harvested, processed and used after they leave the farm. We also had the chance to visit with Arkansas farmers, hear about their operations and learn how farming in their area compares to what we’re used to seeing here in Illinois.

Trips like this are such a great opportunity to get outside of our own communities, see another part of agriculture firsthand and learn directly from the people involved in it. It was also great to see members of all ages asking questions, learning something new and enjoying the experience together.
